Wow..so many to choose from....a man who encouraged me to explore my inner alcoholic...from that to VK. But, okay, even though this is college, I've got to say the most fun was in Miami for the Cubs playoff series (before they choked)...hanging out on Miami Beach. Oh, and how many times can either of us move across country and crash at the other's house...and it's happening again in 2009. Yikes. Happy 40th.
Tom, Tom, Tom .... love ya like a Brother. Always added to the fun, always there to start a joke, laugh at a joke, and encourage a joke. Our colleges lives were more enrich by having Tom add to the happiness, fun and maybe a little mischievous. I remember that smile that only Tom could make ... or was that a syrorressed snicker while we were supposed to be shouting "TUP"?! Happy Birthday, Tom !!!
Hey Tom ... also love like a Sistah :-) The above comment is from me using my AIM name - so fee free to use it "cragnsea". Hope you and your gorgeous family enjoy a big birthday bash. And if you ever get to the DC area this year, just let me know! Hopefully you'll share those memories of dancing at the warming hut, singing on the busses and telling bad jokes. Enjoy!!! - Margaret
Hornline! How could I not post something from our Grange Hall days? Let me bring you to a time where someone in Grange had a pet snake. One day, he comes back from class and... WHERE IS THE SNAKE? A search party sets out to find the pet snake but it is nowhere to be found.
A couple of weeks later, a scream is heard in the hallway. Students rush out. The cleaning lady is pointing to the janitor closet and yelling, "THERE'S A SNAKE IN THERE!"
Happy Birthday, Tom! What was the name of the snake?
My most interesting memory of Tom is bumping into him, rather randomly I thought at the time, in Utah the year after he graduated. I was there with the pep band getting ready for an early round NCAA game, heard someone say my name, looked up and there was Tom!
Once Tom was innocently rubbing someone’s shoulders from behind during a rehearsal break. Andy says “Tom, stop looking down her shirt.” Of course, as soon as I said that, he glanced. She turned. He got it.
The Mystery Ride RAPPS party to Kevin Rice's house. "Do you know the gullible has 3 L's in it?" (naive freshman needs to think about that). Thank you for making the adjustment to UConn a little easier. Have a wonderful birthday and best wishes for many, many more!
We had great times doing heroin, getting wasted and clubbing seals whenever we were near the shore....oh wait...that's not you.
Oh yeah...I remember now!
I had the great opportunity to play in a working dance band, ACCT One, with Tom in college. We played at several local campgrounds. I don't have too many specific memories from back in the day (my memories took off somewhere with my hair) but I know I learned alot and had a lot of fun working with Tom.
At the time I knew he was a talented performer and songwriter. Watching him play the bass, then the saxophone and the bass pedals during our shows was awesome. And singing all those songs and playing the bass lines. Solid! He was the heart of the band. Thanks for letting me be part of it.
After working with many more musicians later in life I really know now how truly talented he is. I don't think Geddy Lee ever played the sax in concert :)
Happy Birthday Tom! If you and the family are ever in Ohio look us up. You are always welcome at our home :)
Hey Happy Birthday Tom! My favorite memories involve Reese's Pieces Sundaes!!! Maybe when you guys move back to Utah, stop by Vegas and we will have to get one!! I haven't had one in ages. Looking forward to meeting your family! Hugs -
Here's to Brother Tom, the worst of them all! Just a few random memories I thought to jot down:
> You and I bringing back the 4x8 piece of plywood for our KKPsi pledge paddle, driving all the way from Willard's with each of us reaching out an open window of your blue Plymouth with our bare hands, trying not to get splinters but still holding on tight so the wind doesn't blow the piece of wood onto the hood of the car trailing behind us.
> Painting our banner in the middle of the night, out in the parking lot behind Buckley. Later riding along with Jen, Jenn and Elisa as Dana Yanaway gondolas us across Mirror Lake on a raft out to the island.
> Prior to band practice, as a tune-up to our rock painting, hand painting every visible square inch (including the tires) of Dana's old van.
> Getting into a snowball fight with John and Carol, inside AND outside of Buckley Hall, which is all started by you and I successfully heaving a couple snowballs up through their open window.
> Numerous band rehearsals, half-time shows, Windjammers and Yale Bowls; fraternity meetings and joint councils; pep band bustrips to the Civic Center, Big East Tournaments and beyond; eating in Whitney Hall; passing around the football in front of Sprague Hall; and rooming in Florida for the Citrus Bowl Parade.
Probably forgot a ton of other stuff, but you get the idea - lots of great times at UConn. Wishing you all the best on your fortieth, and many more years of health and happiness,

duck duck goose on the hill at Terry's and the time when the police came and we were all quite and they left!
