Tom Happy 40th! Every 10 years I have found my life that much better! As your life unfolds and you travel the road remember your mother in law does love you and will NEVER forget the day we got a phone call telling us that Heidi was now Mrs. Tom Roemmele! I am glad to have you as a son in law.

CONGRATULATIONS!! To some it's just another day, but to the life line watchers it's a milestone. I have many memories of Lil Tommy from way back to present, but alas he weren't such a lil shite so all of them are good. I have heard all the tales of travels from his very proud parents, Tales of eloquent conquests(Heidi), And tales of the three wee joys that now require a new higher plane of awareness. Another day you say, to some , but for us that know Tom, it is a day to celebrate his being in our lives as well. Tom, LIVE, LOVE and HAVE FUN, Happy Birthday!

Don't know if I would fit into the "college memories" - since technically the memories were mostly while you were in college... or the "Utah memories," since they began in Utah; but I figure the "OTHER" category is a safe place.

Let's see - memories...

* "I WANT YOUR SHIRT!!!!"
* "Too Cool VK"
* Being a nanny and taking monthly trips out to Connecticut to visit
* Throwing up in your parents car the first time I met them. what a way to make a great impression EH? (and your subsequent joke of giving me airsickness bags - just for fun.)
* Getting "tipsy" from a dose of Nyquil. My first and only experience with alcohol.
* The band trip out to Cape Cod
* The whale watching trip (cape Cod) Seeing those whales up so close was one of the coolest things I have every done in my life! So amazing~
* Watching the dark churning water on the beach in West Hampton after Hurricane Andrew hit
* you being charged "student prices" for school lunch as a substitute teacher. (or was it while you were doing your student teaching??? I forget, either way, you were NOT jr high age...)
* I was driving and got a speeding ticket on our way to Salt Lake, then having you write letters to the "lead-foot greenie"
* Your baptism - I was so impressed with the courage you had to go forward with what you knew was right, even through your family was so against it. What a great example you were to me.
* Being so happy for you when I heard about you and Heidi getting married - in the Palmyra temple.

I know that is just the tip of the iceberg as far as memories go, but suffice it to say - Thanks for being such a good friend and providing so many happy memories. You have a wonderful wife, beautiful children, and I am so very happy for you! I hope you have a fantastic birthday!

I remember Tom showing us all around New York, and helping us catch the train from Stamford into the city, without such expertise, we would surely have gotten completely lost.

I also remember Tom telling me that we had just passed a drug deal on our way to Port Authority (this was back when Times Square and the surrounding area was still pretty dicey).

But my favorite memory is what Tom told Jeri about her, me, and our friend Tami.

"It's almost as if you all three think that there's only one brain between the three of you, and each one of you think that you have it!"

Happy Birthday Tom!

Oh man - Charlotte is right - I forgot all about that "one brain" thing. It was pretty true - one brain between us and we each thought we had it.
Now I know that Charlotte was the one with the largest portion of the brain... she just let us borrow it from time to time I guess.

Happy Birthday Tom !!!

My memories of you are the times you have visited Tucson and the fun it was to take you to the desert and watch you enjoy the area. That you had to stop and look at the cactus and plants that were new to you that the rest of us took for granted. I am so glad that you joined our family and I look forward to seeing you again when you get out west. Have a happy day and I dearly love you and your sweet family.

I have no memories of Tom's early years--that includes college, but I remember him taking the "shortest", most direct route to get to our house from Connecticut. Up over the mountain, along curvy switchback roads and finally down American Fork Canyon.

I remember when he was contemplating joining the church and his dad said he would disinherit him and not have anything to do with him if he did. What an awful decision. I'm sure it wasn't an easy one, but I was so proud that he had such a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the church and the decision he made.

I cried when I got the birth announcement of your first child. I was SO proud that you put the proclamation on the family in it. I read the proclamation again, this time imagining I was either non-LDS or anti-LDS, and reading it for the first time, as I'm sure many of your friends and family were. You two are awesome examples. You may not see the good you do, but you are planting many seeds.

Love you both.

p.s. Happy Birthday!

Hey Tom!

Happy 40th Birthday--wow! How exciting!

Well, you and I met about 17 years ago. Hard to believe it's been that long already. The summer of 1992 when I was just heading in to my senior year and was given the opportunity to attend Bands of America in "Normal" Illinois. I was so nervous heading out on the trip. First being on a bus full of band kids from all over Minnesota and then to head to a city I'd never been before to meet people from all over the country.

When I got there, I met you--a SWAG (Service with a Grin?? Or was it something else...to this day, I don't know that I've ever figured it out!) You were such a great person, so kind, always smiling, and you really helped us nervous kids feel at ease. We became fast friends that week and I was really happy to have you as a long-distance pen pal when I went home.

As I headed off to college, I enjoyed hearing about your brushes with fame and loved the pictures from the Starship concert--never thought I'd actually know a "rock star"!

Thanks for being such a great pen pal through those years and I'm so glad we were able to re-connect through Facebook. You have a BEAUTFIFUL family and I can't wait to hear about all that you accomplish in the next 40 years.

All the best to you and your family--enjoy your birthday!

Tom -

As I sit here writing this, and as I approach 40 myself, I can't believe how many years ago it was that you and I were kids just hanging out... yet somehow at the same time it feels like yesterday. There are 2 specific memories that stick out for me... the first one being the countless baseball games we had in your front yard, with me being the Red Sox and you being the Yankees...and knowing that the "Big Tree" was a homerun!! There are times when I am at my parents' house I take a ride around the neighborhood...and remember those games when I see your front yard... the second memory... you will understand when I say..."you just had to be there" for this one... As I tried retelling the memory to my wife and she looked at me like I had 2 heads!! LOL... Do you remember the night I was sleeping over your house, we must have been in 5th or 6th grade... and we ended up watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail.... and they catapulted the cows over the castle wall and for some reason, we thought that was hysterical...and could not stop laughing...for hours...

Anyway, I'm glad we have those fun times to remember and that we are friends. I think it's great that as little as we see each other, when we do... we seem to pick up right where we left off and laugh and talk like it WAS yesterday... Happy 40th Birthday!! Remember, when you get up in the morning and it hurts from doing absolutely nothing the night before... there are those of us who can relate!! LOL

P.S. Please pass along to Heidi this was a fantastic idea on her part... You have a beautiful family together!!

Every time I would go (‘would’, because I can no long go) to Connecticut, even if just staying over for just one night Tom would get up early – sometimes even before he would go to work and make me pancakes. I LOVE pancakes. Thank you Tom. Tom is the best pancake maker in the world… well in my world anyway!! I am sure that it got to the point where Sarah was hear that Aunt Cindy was coming and all she could think was PANCAKES!! Tom you are such a great Dad and a wonderful brother-in-law…. Happy Birthday!! Cindy

Happy Birthday Tom, you old man! I know you will be out here in a couple of weeks so I could probably tell you then but since it is your birthday I will tell you know. You rock at the bass guitar. Thanks for one of my GREATEST gifts, the signed picture of Rush! And it is all because of you! Thanks for also being a hugh Rush fan because no one else around me is. It is always cool to talk to you about them. Thanks for always being friendly and hospitable to me and my family. Once again, Happy Birthday! Buy a Midlife Crisis sports car for . . . me. See ya in a couple weeks.

Love,
TJ

Happy Birthday Tom! One of my favorite memories of Tom was when I got to go to New York City for the first time. Heidi & Tom had us for Christmas that year so I requested as a Christmas gift that if Tom would take pictures of us in New York enjoying the sites then I wouldn't have to worry about pictures. They turned out awesome. Plus we got to go to a spot in New York that was totally New York to me where we went to a record shop and I got a hot dog. Plus this last time we went out we stayed to watch the coolest Fireworks show EVER! So I am grateful that Tom was willing to share such cool experiences with us. I am grateful to have you as a brother-in-law. Love ya tons!

See you in a couple of weeks!

Love,
Dixie
